** SHORTLISTED **

A few weeks ago I got the notice that one of my photographs is on the shortlist (nominated final round) for the Nature Photographer of the Year 2020 (NPOTY) Awards! This is the message that the jury sent to me:

"Dear nature photographer,

Thank you for entering the Nature Photographer of the Year-Contest 2020.

We’ve got some good news for you! One or more of your photos has/have been selected by the jury of the Nature Photographer of the Year competition 2020 to take part in the final round selection.

Each judge committee member selected 15 images per category that made it to the final round. This means that your image(s) was chosen out of 19.547 different photos from 95 different countries! Of course this is a great achievement, but you're not there yet… Hopefully the judges will select your image(s) for an award!"

The Awards ceremony will be online this year due to Covid19 measures all over the world. The photograph that was selected is a black and white image of firebugs with the title: Mesmerizing.

So let me tell you more about the contest:

"This is already the fifth year of the Nature Photographer of the Year (NPOTY) contest, a worldwide nature photo competition. Besides the prestigious title “Nature Photographer of the Year 2020” there are some fantastic prizes to win, including our top prize of € 3000 cash for the overall winner, and other great cash prizes and cool photo equipment.

The award ceremony where we present all the winning images of the Nature Photographer of the Year contest will take place during the Nature Talks Photo Festival in the Netherlands. This nature photography festival is a yearly two day event where visitors attend to enjoy presentations from more than 50 top nature photographers. On the 12th and 13th of December 2020 we expect about 3250 visitors. Nature Talks will be an online event this year, including different photo workshops, masterclasses, see nature movies, the photo exhibition of the winners and much more.

The Nature Photographer of the Year competition is open to residents of every country and to almost all ages starting from 10 years old. There are 11 different categories to enter, a portfolio award and a young NPOTY award.

If you enter our contest you automatically support the Nature Talks foundation (Stichting Nature Talks). This non profit organization contributes to various conservation projects in the Netherlands and Belgium. By doing this we give something back to the nature we love so much. So besides the chance to win great prizes, you also give nature a hand. Read here which project(s) will we be supporting this year."

Now I will just have to wait if my photograph will be awarded! FINGERS CROSSED!
