Publication: Natura Magazine 2011 No. 2 Volume 108

Natura Magazine is part of the Royal Dutch Society for Natural History (KNNV) and is published six times a year. The KNNV is a society which aims at active participation in and with nature through natural history studies, by enjoying nature and through nature conservation.

I wrote a short column-like article for Natura Magazine about the Balgzand project of IMARES, where I worked as an intern during the winter. The project contained camera observation on wading birds on the mudflats of Balgzand. Balgzand is located in the protected area of the Wadden Sea close to Den Helder, the Netherlands. The research focused on the distribution and the behaviour of wading birds in the light of migration, the tide and seasonal changes on Balgzand. I collected data of the species of birds resting or foraging on the mudflats, including registration of behaviour, date and time.
