I just launched my professional fine-art print collection and I realized... some may know me, some may not. So... Did you know these peculiar facts about me...
• that I once got stung by an unknown insect in the marshes, which produced a swelling as big as a tennis ball? I only noticed when I got home and I needed to sleep with an icepack stripped on the swelling. I guess I was too caught up in my photographic process when the insect bit me...
• that I was called "miss Piggy" someday after crawling on the wet mudflats to photograph birds, getting completely soaked with mud, stinking like hell afterwards? Again... I was too caught up in my own creative world to even notice...
• that I worked as a hydrobiologist for nine years, specialized in benthic blue green algae? That I always wore pants a size too big for me out in the field (cause I used to kind of borrow them from my boyfriend while they looked so comfy). Of course my camera was my companion.
• that I lived on the Isle of Texel in the Netherlands for an internship, researching common seals and water fowl? That once the ice pack was so thick out in the field, and it was so cold, that when we hit some open water, my wetsuit immediately started to shrink when I went into the water (which was actually a kind of a massage for my legs, but a really strange one, you go figure!). Took great photos out there!
So... some peculiar facts about my experiences out in the field. And surely not the last! Though these kind of stories really stand out in creating a photograph. It is not just CLICK and GO. Most photographic experiences in nature and travel photography take up quite some effort and discomfort! During the process or afterwards.
