UPDATE Humpback Whale spotted along the Dutch Coast

This afternoon a Humpback Whale was spotted close to the Harbour of Rotterdam. The Harbour Security Patrol tried to scare off the whale due to the dangers of passing cargoships in the area. The Harbour of Rotterdam is an international harbour with lots of traffic on the water. The animal is now foraging in the open sea near the Maasvlakte II, though it has left the channel to the harbour itself. Marko of Delta Safari informed me about this news.

UPDATE! On Wednesday evening August 15, I decided to come along during the Sunset Safari of Delta Safari to search for the Humpback Whale. The fishermen didn't spot the whale anymore this day. The underwater noise in and around Rotterdam Harbour must have been loud. What's more, there is not enough food to sustain such a big animal in the Dutch Voordelta. Experts believe this is a young animal searching ground and it might show up now and again along the Dutch coast the coming days.
