This is surely one of my most populair photographs. I can tell you why... We had a very hot and dry Summer in 2018, and I was visiting a nature park on one of those hot and dry days. The owner put on a waterspray for the burrowing owls to shower in. Due to the angle of Sunlight coming in, a rainbow appeared. I took some shots of the owl, the rainbow and the droplets. One of those photographs made me decide to send it in for a photo competition by the Dutch National Geographic. Out of thousands of photographs the "burrowing owl in a rainbow" was nominated.
I didn't win the competition eventually. Therefore I decided to send it in to the Your Shot community of National Geographic (globally). Only a few hours later 4 editors had chosen the photograph as a favorite. After a week it was published as one of the Photos of the Week in October 2018. One of the editors wrote an editor's note to accompany it:
"I love this Marta. This frame immediately made me laugh when I first saw it... I love the owl's "grumpy" expression as it's surrounded by one of nature's greatest beauties, a rainbow! Great framing to off-set the owl from the center of the frame to see more of the colors and details from the rain. Well done!"

But they had another surprise for me in store... in December 2018 my photograph was chosen out of 1.2 million uploads to be one of seventy best photographs of 2018! Wow!
