When I am working on my photography, it is not only about the creativity and nature/wildlife experiences. I believe we are part of nature and therefore we need to be respectful towards our environment. After years of working as a hydrobiologist and nature photographer, I couldn't have said it any better:
"Photographers see nature in its purest form and face it with an open mind. The result is also a warning: the loss of a part damages the whole. The photos are more than just an invitation to cuddle or flinch, they may be an incentive to take the management of our planet seriously."
Bill Allen, in National Geographic - The best 100 photos. Collectors Edition. Translated to English from the edition Nederland•België (2003)
These puffins in the photograph represent "future". They mate for life, hence the title "I will never leave you". A puffin's beak brightens in mating season and becomes rippled. They look extra colorful and within this golden light it is like a fairytale. Taken on Skomer Island UK, June 2019.
Puffins were hunted greatly by humans throughout history. In particular, they were hunted for eggs, feathers and meat. Atlantic puffin populations drastically declined due to habitat destruction and exploitation during the 19th century and early 20th century. They continue to be hunted in Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
To watch these birds thrive in their colony on Skomer Island UK (National Trust Heritage Site) was such an amazing view. I hope we care enough to keep this species alive within our societies and beyond. Do you also want to enjoy this golden moment with me? It is now available in my Fine-art print collection!
