Skomer Island... located less than a mile off the maginficent Pembrokeshire coast, Wales, UK. It is booming with wildlife, especially in Spring when the coastal birds come in to breed. A true bird paradise! The puffins are famous, in particular the colony on the spectacular cliffs of The Wick. There might be even 22,000 puffins breeding on Skomer! But there is more... Razorbills, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Fulmars and Manx Shearwaters (over 316,000 breeding pairs of Manx Shearwaters on Skomer and Skokholm Island all together!). There are at least six pair of short-eared owls nesting on Skomer as well.
In the waters around Skomer there are sea mammals to be found like Harbour Porpoises, Dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals. And there is even endemic life on the island: the Skomer Vole.
I traveled there in June 2019 with photography friends to experience the nurturing grounds of the sea birds up close. What a Life! What a most beautiful light developing during the day! The landscape is stunning and rough. I am fortunate to have been there for a few days.
The photograph of the two puffins (on the postcard with this Blog-post) was taken during Sundown at The Wick with a golden glow. These puffins were bonding with each other after being apart for 9 months at sea! Such an interesting and wondrous moment.
The photograph is in my fine-art print collection and now also in my fine-art glossy postcards set. Are you interested in my fine-art collection of photographs to get to know my creations? Yes? Please take a look at https://www.orbica.nl/fine-art-shop/fine-art-postcards/
